A 52-year-old Hackensack man was fatally shot on July 12 in Paterson, police said.
Paterson police responded to reports of shots fired at 10:42 p.m. in the area of Clinton Street and Garfield Avenue. When officers arrived at the scene, they found the man lying on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound. He was taken to St. Joseph’s University Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased.
No additional information was provided. The investigation is ongoing. The shooting victim has not been identified by authorities.

Paterson saw eight killings in 2025 through July 6, according to crime statistics published by the Paterson Police Department. But overall, gun violence has declined sharply over a decade and continues to fall, Paterson Press reported.
The city had 20 shooting incidents during the first five months of this year, marking a 35.5% reduction compared with the same period in 2024, when there were 31 incidents, the Paterson Press investigation found.
