Blood center encourages all eligible donors to donate


PLATTSBURGH — The Adirondack Blood Center, a program of the University of Vermont Health Network–Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital, plans several community blood drives in August and the blood bank team is encouraging all eligible donors to attend.

“Summer is a busy time for everyone, so we are hoping all those who can donate will make the time to attend a drive or drop in the Donor Center.

The need for blood is continuous and we are so lucky to have donors in this community dedicated to our mission,” Shannon Nutbrown, laboratory manager, said.

The schedule is as follows:

— 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, West Side Ball Room, New York Road, sponsored by Clinton County ARC

— noon to 4 p.m. Monday, Adirondack Medical Center, Saranac Lake, Redfield Room

— 4-7 p.m. Aug. 11, Essex Fire Department, co-sponsored by Masonic Lodge

— 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug 12, New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Headquarters, Route 86, Ray Brook

— 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 13, New York State Police Station, Route 11, Malone

— 4-7 p.m. Aug. 14, Holy Name Church, Ausable Forks

— 1-4 p.m. Aug. 15, BHSN, Route 22, Morrisonville

— 3-7 p.m. Aug. 18, Champlain EMS station, Route 11, co-sponsored by Knights of Columbus

— 3:30-6:30 p.m. Aug. 20, Bloomingdale Fire Department, held in memory of Brad Parker

— 9-11 a.m. Aug. 22, Burke Adult Center, Main Street, Burke

— 3-6 p.m. Aug. 25, Willsboro Fire Department

— 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 28, Champlain Valley Vascular, Hammond Lane

— 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 29, CVPH Lab Conference Rooms, 3rd 214 Cornelia St.

Patients at CVPH, Alice Hyde Medical Center in Malone, Elizabethtown Community Hospital (including Ticonderoga) and Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake benefit from the generous donations collected at these drives and at the Adirondack Regional Blood Donor Center. Located at 85 Plaza Blvd., the Donor Center is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Walk-ins are welcome.

Blood donors must be at least 16 years-old (16- and 17-year-old donors must have written parental/guardian consent), in general good health and weigh at least 110 lbs.

A screening questionnaire addressing personal medical, social and travel history is completed prior to donating and a donor card or another form of identification is also required.

Donors must wait 56 days between donations.
