Are Milwaukee County beaches dog-friendly? Where to take your pet swimming this summer


Want to spend a day soaking up the sun in Wisconsin with your furry friend, but struggling to find a beach that allows pets?

We’ve got you covered. Milwaukee County doesn’t have any designated dog-friendly beaches, but plenty of state parks and forests have pet swim areas.

Here’s what to know:

Where are dog-friendly beaches in Milwaukee County?

Milwaukee County does not have any dog-friendly designated beaches, according to county ordinance 47.06.

Where are dog parks in Milwaukee County?

Milwaukee County has six dog parks for pets to run around off leash:

  • Cudahy: Warnimont Park Dog Park, 5400 S. Lake Drive

  • Milwaukee: Bay View Dog Park, East Lincoln Avenue & South Bay Street

  • Milwaukee: Estabrook Park Dog Park, 4400 N. Estabrook Drive

  • Milwaukee: Granville Dog Exercise Area, 11718 W. Good Hope Place

  • Milwaukee: Roverwest Dog Park, 3243 N. Weil St.

  • Wauwatosa: Currie Park Dog Park, 3535 N. Mayfair Road

Where are nearby dog-friendly beaches?

Even though Milwaukee County doesn’t have any dog-friendly beaches, your furry friend can soak up the sun at some state parks and forests.

Here are the 18 state parks and forests will pet-friendly swim areas, according to the state Department of Natural Resources:

  • Governor Dodge State Park

  • Governor Nelson State Park

  • Governor Thompson State Park

  • Harrington Beach State Park

  • Northern Highland American Legion State Forest

  • Governor Earl Peshtigo River State Forest

  • Pike Lake Unit (Kettle Moraine State Forest)

  • Southern Unit (Kettle Moraine State Forest)

  • Whitefish Dunes State Park

If you are planning on bringing your pet to any of these DNR gems, make sure you read up on the pet rules beforehand. Breaking any of the rules, like not picking up after your pet or leaving them unattended, could result in a citation.
